hi guys,

I'm going to soon take on my first full time employee to do predominantly onsite support for business. The new employee will need to use their own car at this stage. I'm having great difficulty trying to work out a car allowance figure or calc. The cents per kilometre method is common here in Australia but I still can't find any useful suggestions of an amount.

anyone employ anyone and care to share how they calculate a car allowance?

cheers
nathan

PS. car allowance includes fuel. hence the cents per km method is probably going to be the most useful.

Natrat in Australia legislation says you must pay $0.75 per km to staff if you allow them to use their own vehicle.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction!. this isn't actually the award my employees fall under (we use the business equipment award after a discussion with the fair work commission to find the most appropriate) but i didn't realise the awards had specific amounts so i found the info under our award.

Allowances section covers it.

thanks again.
