Is RangerMSP a good fit for a computer repair shop with walk-in customers? How could it be used?

RangerMSP is designed to help managing this work flow (and many others). Please see below a scenario that may work with a walk-in customer, though with some adjustments it can be the adjusted to other cases.

Usually when a new customer walks into your shop and hands you a PC to fix (or anything else) there are a few tasks that needs to be done – you need to add the customer contact information into the system, you need to add a new service ticket for their PC repair, optionally you may also want to add an Asset record for their PC (so you can track service history at the device level, not only the customer level, many of our users do not do this, yet it is an option).

All the above can usually be achieved directly from the New Ticket window.
You do not necessary have to first open an account in the Accounts window and only then proceed.

From the File menu select File > New > Ticket. The New Ticket window will open – instead of selecting an existing Account (click the + sign/button to add a new Account directly from here). If you decide to track the service at the device level, click the + sign to add an Asset. If you need to add another Contact person for this customer (like if they say that her son will pick it up and you want his info in the system) click the + sign to add a secondary contact – all from the New Ticket window.

A new Ticket has just been created. Print a Technician Service Form so the customer can take a paper with them with the Ticket number, etc. You can also print one with a place for signature so the customer will sign it, or you can email it to the customer directly from the Tickets window as an attached PDF form (such forms can also be customized using the built-in report designer).

You then fix the PC in your lab and log Charges to track the time spent or parts used to resolve the problem with their PC.

The customer comes to pick it up and you want to generate an invoice - if you use the QuickBooks Link – you can quickly generate a QuickBooks Invoice for this Ticket right from the Ticket in RangerMSP.
