RangerMSP User Question*

When adding many items of the same type, for example a specific model of computer, how can I store each serial number separately?

Answer

For this you would need to add a separate Asset record for each one, then each can have its own serial number, warranty or any other details unique to the specific machine.

You can quickly add new Assets based on existing Assets using the Copy button which you will see on the Assets window. Then all you need to do is change the serial number while everything else remains the same.

When faced with adding a large number of Assets it may be more convenient for you to use the Import Assets feature (Tools > Import and Export > Import Assets) then you can simply import them all at once from an Excel file.

You can also use the serial number as the Asset Code (on the General tab) - it must be unique and then it can help ensure you don't enter the same asset more than once. The serial number could be combined with some other identifier if you like, for example Lenovo-000001.

You can later use that Asset Code to do updates by using the Import from Excel feature as mentioned above.
