When viewing the Assets list (click the Assets icon on the left pane), you have a search pane on the top part of the window. You can search assets by various fields. To search by serial number, you should click the pull-down list (where it says "Asset Code"), and select to search by Serial No. Note that you can search by various fields of the Asset this way.
