Is there a way of searching the dispatcher or appointments?

Yes, select the Appointments tab (list), right click above the list of appointments - from the menu that pops select Table Options > Table Search. A Window will open and it will allow you to run textual searches in the list. For what it worth, this trick works in almost any other list of records.
