Is it me or does it seem like the internet as a whole is getting slow. I remember years ago when i made the switch from dial-up to broadband and i was all smiles. pages would load before you finger left the mouse button.

Now even with 10Mb connections, things seem slow. Pages take 3-4 seconds to load, etc. Even previously visited pages and sites.

Could this be a provider DNS issue, or am i just going crazy?

most likely it is a DNS issue. the internet is becoming a monster and most providers are overselling what they can handle... have you tried opendns?

I expect that HTML coding is a little looser these days. Why use 20Kb when 200Kb will do! Ahhh I miss creating web pages with Notepad. :o)

i guess it comes down to the fact that before you would compress your images to the smallest size possable so that they loaded faster. most do not bother now as all they want is quality images.

Depends how you are connected to the internet. We connect directly to the net at the isp level on to their backbone. It's hell fast, no slow downs. However, the link here to usa is the bottleneck. There are many bottlenecks. Do a tracert next time you have slow browsing.

For example, after 7th hop you can see we have left our country. So, latency picks up.

Tracing route to youtube.com [74.125.237.77]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms not telling :)
2 1 ms 2 ms 5 ms not telling :)
3 1 ms 1 ms 2 ms ge0-3.cr2.wlg.dts.net.nz [202.68.80.1]

Now lets go to commitcrm. At hop 10 we change country and hop 15. These are the reasons for your slow downs. It depends where you are going and how you are getting there.
