What's the purpose of the "code" field in contracts? How is this typically used?

The Contract Code is the unique identifier of a Contract/Project.

It has various usages, for example:
1. Easily select a Contract/Project for Charges, Ticket etc. by typing its code in the Contract field, rather than need to click on the magnifying glass a search for it.
2. If you use a sort-able notation for the codes you can easily sort your Contract reports as well as Charge reports. For example, you can group several contracts/projects of an Account like 1550-P001 and 1550-P002 – say these are projects you want to be able to see together or print Charge reports together (note that Charges reports can be filtered by a Contract Code Range – this can be very helpful in many cases).

There are many other usages for it, it varies from one customers to the other. You can read more about Contracts and their usages in our Billing manual.
