We have the SQL version of CommitCRM and since the upgrade out backups won't start. The step one hangs. We have stopped all add-on services and have only had 1 complete backup since the upgrade.
Please advise!

Thank you for posting this. It seems that backup utility was not able to terminate all sessions. It is possible that a RangerMSP process is somehow hung on one of the networked PCs or on the server itself and therefore the backup cannot start.
I recommend you to verify that RangerMSP is closed on all machine and no process is running when looking at Task Manager.
There is no need to stop the server-side services during the backup as they "know" to not access the database when the backup is active.

Rebooting the server and running the backup before other user will log in to RangerMSP may also help.

Last but not least - with the SQL back-end you can perform live backup - e.g. backup your system while the system is in use.

You can find full instructions on how to configure it in file <server>\RangerMSP\Utils\RangerMSPBackup.ini.

Once this the live backup works well, at least once, go ahead and automate backups by adding a task using Windows Scheduler, one that will run the backup utility RangerMSPBackup.exe with a parameter - as explained in the mentioned file.

As with backups - please make sure you also use additional methods of backing up server files and that these also include the RangerMSP folder tree.

Hope this helps.
