So CommitCRM is randomly crashing when trying to set things up in contracts and also gives an error pretty much everyday upon first launch. Getting error numbers 6420 and 5041... Trying to pin down the reason if anyone has any ideas.

The 6420 message is related to not finding your SQL backend.

6420 when the auto-discovery of the back-end SQL, by the RangerMSP client, has failed. The reason for this is that it tries to find it by broadcasting a UDP packet and waits for the SQL engine to reply - BUT - most chances are that UDP is blocked on your computer.

In 99.99% of the cases the root cause is Windows firewall (or any other firewall you use), and - Windows Updates many times enables it or change its configuration entirely transparent and the error is then popped "automagically".

You should try to disable it on the server and see if that helps, if it does but you want it enabled then you can at least configure it to allow and accept UDP packets, this should be enough. If it does not work - proceed with also disabling Windows firewall on your local PC as well.

In case the above does not help (it normally does) then you should configure an ADS.ini file that "teaches" RangerMSP client where the SQL server is. Click to learn all about configuring ADS.ini.

Regarding the other code, please email us your RangerMSP log files for review (using the Help > Technical Support menu in RangerMSP, and Outlook).

Hope this helps!

What ports do I need to open on the firewall?

It isn't about ports at this stage, it is about allowing UDP packets to go in both directions (and this should be set on the server and network PCs) in order for the auto-discovery of where the SQL server is, to work.

In case you will configure an ADS.ini, this bypasses auto-discovery and you will not need to allow UDP in the firewalls.

Hope this helps.

What's the exact path you have for your RangerMSP desktop shortcut? Can you copy it and paste it here?

Also, what's the exact content of your ADS.ini file? + What's the local/internal IP address of your server?

(You may contact us directly by emailing support@... in case you do not want to publicly publish the details)
